Getting the job done

Many messages in the film Rustin resonated with me.

One of my favorites came near the end.

Bayard Rustin had committed to picking up trash after the March on Washington.

It would have been easy to brush off the commitment.

And bask in the glory of a successful event.

After all, it was his idea.

Instead, Bayard borrowed a shoulder bag and a trash picker and got to work.

Leaders do what’s necessary to get the job done.

They also keep their commitments.

On this President’s Day, think about how you demonstrate leadership.

Sometimes, it’s as easy as picking up the trash.
